Our Charitable Aims
The Royal Life Saving Society was formed in 1891 and is a registered charity.
Our main aim is to prevent accidental drowning in the UK and we do this by:
- Information and campaigns on key water safety issues
- Teaching people personal survival skills including what to do in an emergency
- Training rescue skills for people with a duty of care
- Research to improve drowning prevention
Our work is to reduce and prevent accidental drowning and has obvious and direct public benefit.
Activities
To achieve its objectives, the Charity carries out the following activities:
- We deliver education and training in lifesaving
- We support the collation of drowning data for research and analysis
- We campaign and lobby about water safety issues
- We help schools deliver water safety and life support in the curriculum
- We encourage the growth of voluntary Life Saving and Lifeguard Clubs
- We identify communities at risk and develop resources to address their needs
- We provide advice and guidance on all aspects of water safety
- We publish a range of guides free to download from the RLSS UK Website
- We encourage fitness and health by promoting lifesaving sport
