Competition Information - National Championships

RLSS UK National Lifesaving Championships 2013

The Championship is made up of four events; Aquatic Initiative Test; Life Support Initiative Test; Swim and Tow; Line Throw. (The initiatives are developed usings only the skills in the Survive & Save and LifeSupport Manuals).

 

Aquatic Initiative Test

Competitors will have 90 seconds to respond to an Aquatic Initiative Test, which will test their assessment of the situation, their lifesaving skills and their after rescue treatment.

Life Support Initiative Test

Competitors will have 90 seconds to respond to a dry simulation to demonstrate emergency first and casualty care.

Swim and Tow

Competitors enter the water, swim to their team mate who they then tow to the designated finishing point.

 Line Throw

The competitor has to coil a rope, throw it out to a team mate and pull them back in.

 

Interested clubs and individuals enter at a Branch level.  If a Branch is in receipt of more valid entries than is their entitlement in the respective Regional Heat, that Branch will hold a Branch Heat.  This heat will determine which entries are forwarded to the Regional Heat. 

The Region will determine the number of entries in each category. If a Region is in receipt of more valid entries than is their entitlement in the National Final, that Region will hold a Regional Heat. This heat will determine which entries are forwarded to the RLSS UK National Lifesaving Championships.

 

Membership Requirements


All competitors for the RLSS UK National Lifesaving Championships (including Branch and Regional Heats) must be in current individual membership of the society. All competitors must remain in membership throughout their participation in the competition.

 

Any competitor found not to be in current membership will be excluded from the competition.

Categories


Championships and heats shall be held in the following categories:

  • Junior Girls (12 to 14yrs)
  • Junior Boys (12 to 14yrs)
  • Senior Girls (15 to 17yrs)
  • Senior Boys (15 to 17yrs)
  • Ladies Individual (16plus)
  • Men's Individual (16plus)
  • Masters Ladies (Age Groups: 30-39yrs; 40-49yrs; 50-59yrs; 60plus)
  • Masters Mens (Age Groups: 30-39yrs; 40-49yrs; 50-59yrs; 60plus)

Award Pre-requisites


Competitors shall, at the date of entry for the Branch Heat fulfil the following conditions:

  • Rookie Silver Level 3
  • Bronze Medallion or higher (Survive & Save Programme)
  • Bronze Stillwater or higher 
  • Bronze Ocean of higher 
  • Heritage Bronze Medallion
  • Assistant Beach Lifeguard 

  • Bronze Medallion or higher (Survive & Save Programme)
  • Bronze Stillwater or higher
  • Bronze Ocean or higher
  • Heritage Bronze Medallion or higher
  • Assistant Beach Lifeguard
  • Beach or Pool Lifeguard Qualification

  • Bronze Medallion or higher (Survive & Save Programme)

  • Bronze Stillwater or higher

  • Bronze Ocean or higher

  • Heritage Bronze Medallion

  • Assistant Beach Lifeguard

  • Beach or Pool Lifeguard Qualification

 

 

 

Timeline - Important Dates


 

By 1 April    Branches, to publish details of their Branch Heat - competition date, fees payable and closing date for entries - no later than 1 April.

Branches to supply all entrants with any additional details to that of the return at least two weeks prior to the Competition date (Rule 3.4 refers).

14-22 April  (Band 2) Regional Committees to confirm arrangements made under Rule 4.2, at its Band 1 meeting 29 January – 6 February).

19 July        Last date for receipt at RLSS UK Headquarters of Branch Entry Return Forms Entry Forms of Competitors who qualify for Regional Heats and Branch Entry Fee of £100.

24 August   Last date for receipt at RLSS UK Headquarters of 2012 Championships Winners Trophies.

Any individual or affiliated organisation failing to return a trophy by the specified return date, may be disqualified from competing in that year's Final.

24 August   Date by which RLSS UK headquarters will have supplied all Regional Heat Organisers with Entries for competitors who qualify for their Regional Heat.

31 August   Date by which Regional Heat Organisers will have supplied all Competitors qualifying for Regional Heat with their full written details.

9-30 September (for guidance only) Dates for Regional Heats (taking into account the impact of other events on competitors and officials).

4 October    Last date for receipt at RLSS UK Headquarters of Entry Forms from Competitors who qualify for the RLSS UK Finals.

18 October Date by which Competitors who qualify for the RLSS UK Finals and Regional Team Managers will have received details of the National Finals from the appropriate Regional Heat Organiser.

 National Lifesaving Championship
Heat Organisers Day

 

Each Region is invited to send their heat organisers to a FREE development day at River House on 20th July 2013. 

Who should attend:

Branch Heat Organisers
Regional Heat Organisers
Competition Secretaries

Over the past few years there has been several changes and up dates with effect the RLSS UK National Lifesaving Championships.  The day is designed to update and support heat organisers no matter what their level of experience. 

2013 Regional medals and certificates will be distributed to regional organisers or representatives, on the day.
