So get fit, makes friends and learn to save a life – Lifesaving Sport

Lifesaving sport was primarily developed to encourage lifeguards to, maintain and improve the essential physical and mental skills needed to save lives in the aquatic environment. It has now grown into an international competitive swimming discipline.

Lifesaving competitions consist of a variety of swimming and first aid skills to nurture and demonstrate lifesaving skills, fitness and motivation at a competitive level. The speed based events are held either in a pool or open water environment and test the fitness of the lifesaver and their ability to use their skills at speed. The SERC's (simulated emergency response competition) is a test of lifesavers' skills, decision making and team work.

Lifesaving is a rapidly growing sport, both in the UK and Worldwide. It has established tiers of competition from local to international level. There are World Championships, Commonwealth Championships, European Championships and it is part of the World Games.

Lifesaving is unique because it is the only sport where skills are learned for humanitarian purposes and only then applied to competition.
