Become a First Aid Trainer Assessor

First Aid Trainer Assessors are responsible for the delivery of RLSS UK First Aid qualifications throughout the UK.

What does it involve?

RLSS UK is currently offering existing RLSS UK Pool Lifeguard Trainer Assessors and existing First Aid Instructors with other awarding organisations a simple and cost effective pathway to upskill/convert in order to deliver RLSS UK First Aid qualifications.

If your application is successful, there will be a £50 fee for your new set of Training Resources, which includes candidate materials for First Aid at Work as well as online resources to deliver the courses.

If you are not an existing RLSS UK Pool Lifeguard Trainer Assessor or existing First Aid Instructor with another awarding organisation, please re-visit this page over the coming months as we will soon be launching our new First Aid Trainer Assessor course.

Pre Requisites

Those wishing to become a RLSS UK First Aid Trainer Assessor must:

  • Be a current RLSS UK Pool Lifeguard Trainer Assessor OR First Aid Instructor with another awarding organisation.
  • Hold one of the following: a valid, in date, RLSS UK National Pool Lifeguard Qualification OR RLSS UK First Aid at Work Certificate OR First Aid at Work Certificate (other awarding organisation).
  • Hold a valid Level 3 Award in Education and Training Certificate (or equivalent). If you do not hold this qualification, RLSS UK are offering a competitively priced, distance learning course in partnership with Premier Training and Active IQ. Please click here for full details.
  • Hold current RLSS UK Membership.

RLSS UK First Aid qualifications are trainer assessed. To comply with regulatory requirements, applicants must have been actively training first aid over the past three years. You are required to have completed the following within the last three years:

  • A minimum of 36 hours first aid training delivery
  • A minimum of 6 first aid related assessments (these can be National Pool Lifeguard Qualification, Emergency First Aid at Work or First Aid at Work assessments).

When completing the online application form, you will be asked to outline what first aid related training and assessing activity you have taken part in over the past three years.

All RLSS UK First Aid qualifications must be delivered at an IQL UK Approved Training Centre (ATC) or via an IQL UK Approved Training Provider (ATP).  If you currently work at an ATC/P you can start to deliver RLSS UK First Aid qualifications immediately by liaising with your ATC/P Coordinator.

If you are an independent trainer wishing to deliver RLSS UK First Aid qualifications, you can apply to become an ATP. The ATP scheme allows you to deliver qualifications at any location. For new ATP’s delivering RLSS UK First Aid qualifications, the first year’s subscription fee is free. Thereafter a £230 fee, which is renewable annually, will be required to maintain ATP status.

ATP’s receive access to IQL UK’s online software portal to assist with the delivery, assessment and recording of IQL UK managed qualifications. In addition you will be assigned a dedicated Customer Engagement Manager. Your Customer Engagement Manager will be your primary contact at IQL UK and support you with the delivery of IQL UK qualifications. You Customer Engagement Manager will also conduct an External Quality Assurance visit with you every 12-18 months to ensure compliance with IQL UK and Ofqual regulatory requirements.

If you wish to become an ATC or ATP, please indicate this via the online application form and we will send you all of the relevant information.
