Is the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) a suitable qualification to meet First Aid training needs?

The first aid syllabus covered in the third section of the NPLQ is closely aligned to the syllabus that is recommended for delivery in a First Aid at Work qualification.

It is the responsibility of the employer to decide, on a needs assessment basis, if they wish their employees to cover the exact same syllabus as that covered on a First Aid at Work course.

What isn’t included in the NPLQ but delivered in the First Aid at Work Course?

The criteria that are not included in the NPLQ course, but is delivered in a First Aid at Work (FAW) course is:

  • Additional content – splinters and chest injuries,
  • Expanded content – types of bleeding, amputation, head Injuries and unconscious casualty

Can I do the full First Aid at Work course as part of the NPLQ?

You will need to request this at the time of booking. See section ‘Who will be able to deliver the qualifications?’

Should I request the First Aid at Work additional content?

Your employer, following a needs basis assessment, will need to decide the requirements of its employees.

If I complete the combined NPLQ/FAW course will this be recognised?

Yes. On completion of a combined NPLQ/FAW the candidate will be issued with two certificates, one for the NPLQ and one for FAW.

First Aid and Emergency First Aid at Work

What is the difference between Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) and First Aid at Work (FAW)?

EFAW is suitable for staff who work in a ‘low risk’ environment such as an office or shop and meets HSE requirements.

FAW includes the content covered in the EFAW course but also enables the first-aider to recognise and administer first aid in more serious scenarios.

Do I need a EFAW or FAW qualification?

It is the responsibility of the employer to decide, on a needs assessment basis, if they wish their employees to cover the exact same syllabus as that covered on a First Aid at Work course.

How long does the qualification last?

You will be required to renew your qualification after three years from completion of the assessment.

Does my organisation or job role need to be associated with a water based activity or water safety?

No!

This qualification is a nationally recognised qualification and Ofqual accredited, suitable for all individuals and industries.

Will the course include AED training?

It is not part of the standard syllabus however when booking the course you can choose the option to include AED training.

Paediatric & Emergency Paediatric First Aid at Work

What is the difference between Emergency Paediatric First Aid and Paediatric First Aid?
