Great news! The finalists for the RLSS UK/IQL Awards have been announced. This is the first awards ceremony to be held by RLSS UK/IQL to celebrate the achievements of RLSS UK Pool Lifeguards, Pool Trainer Assessors and Approved Training Centres.

The shortlisted Approved Training Centres are:

  • Leeds Sport and Active Lifestyles
  • SWIM UK
  • Leisure Connection

The Approved Training Centre of the year award is designed to award Approved Training Centres who have shown an exceptional commitment to Pool Lifeguard training and water safety awareness. The award recognises a clear dedication to the provision of Pool Lifeguard training, Pool Lifeguard career development and the wider water safety message.

The shortlisted Pool Lifeguards are:

  • Christopher Mears
  • Belfast City Council Lifeguards
  • John Kelham
  • Jared Dungate and Steve Cox

The Pool Lifeguard of the Year award is aimed at awarding Pool Lifeguards who have exceeded the requirements expected of his/her position and who have made an outstanding contribution to the safety of swimmers and recognising a powerful dedication to Pool Lifeguarding.

The shortlisted Pool Lifeguard Trainer Assessors are:

  • Cathy Sedgewick
  • Chris Hirst
  • Iain Strachan
  • Mike Ferguson
  • Sharon Hunter
  • Steve Carter

The Pool Lifeguard Trainer Assessor of the year award is aimed at awarding Pool Lifeguard Trainer Assessors who have shown exceptional instruction, assessment and development skills for Pool Lifeguard training. The award recognises a clear dedication to the training of Pool Lifeguarding.

The awards ceremony will take place at Cranage Hall in Cheshire on Friday 14th June and we are thrilled to announce that Olympic swimmer Mark Foster will be presenting the winners with their awards.

We’ll soon be announcing profiles of the finalists and the prizes for each award, but for now a big congratulations to all those who have been shortlisted, it’s a great achievement!
