Get ready England! In May, Trent Maxwell, better known as Lifeguard Maxi from Australia’s Network Ten hit TV show Bondi Rescue, will be UK bound to meet local nippers and budding Rookie Lifeguards all in the name of spreading the message of Water Safety. Maxi will be in England for a week-long tour from Saturday May 27 to Friday June 2 2017.

The Royal Life Saving Society UK’s (RLSS UK) Head of Volunteering, Lee Heard welcomed Maxi to the UK.

He said; “We’re delighted Maxi has travelled back to the UK to help spread the word about the importance of water safety for young people.

“Our Rookie Lifeguard scheme is expressly designed for young people to have fun and keep active, while they build confidence and learn how to keep themselves and their friends safe, in and around water.

“A global star like Maxi, who shares our passion for drowning prevention, can help raise the profile of the work of RLSS UK and, in turn, encourage young people the world over, to get involved and equip themselves with valuable lifesaving skills.”

Maxi is really excited to be heading back to the UK and meeting as many of the locals as possible, carry out mock rescues and conducting a series of motivational talks to children and teenagers.

Maxi said; “I have been inspired by the amazing sense of community amongst the people that have reached out to me and I can’t wait to support the great work they are doing to promote water safety with children, either in or near the water.

Lizzie Knight, Learn to Swim Co-Ordinator of the Oakland’s Community Pool in Southampton said; “Having a visit from Maxi will be such a treat for our swimmers and Rookie Lifeguards”

Philip Younger of Southbourne Surf Life Saving Club told Maxi; “More adult volunteers would allow us to teach more children vital Water Safety Skills that could save a life one day.”

Charity Parker, Duty Manager of the Waterside Community Trust on the Isle of Wight said;

“We could not be more thankful Maxi is coming to visit, learning to swim is so important and we hope his visit can help us raise awareness of that.”

Maxi is excited to be able to use his global profile for a cause he is so passionate about.

Maxi said; “In the lead up to the RLSS UK’s Drowning Prevention Week in the UK I look forward to helping raise awareness about the importance of teaching children valuable water safety skills.”
