Inaugural success for the Royal Life Saving Society UK’s Autumn Walk

The Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS UK) was delighted with the enthusiastic turn out for its very first autumn walk last Monday (October 23).

Having relocated to Worcester in January, the drowning prevention charity was keen that people came along to find out more about its work, as well as to learn important water safety information that could save lives.

RLSS UK CEO, Di Steer kicked off proceedings at Waitrose on London Road as walkers young and old joined The Mayor of Worcester, Coun. Steve Mackay and RLSS UK mascot Perry on the 2 ½ mile route, finishing with a welcome complementary hot drink from The Anchor Inn, at Diglis Basin Marina:

“Everyone seemed to really enjoy the event and we hope it gave walkers an insight into some of the work we do” she added.

As well as raising funds for the charity, there were some light-hearted opportunities to take on board some interesting facts and education on water safety along the way; with a lifesaving rope-throw demonstration, open water swimming information and further support from The Canal & River Trust.

Coun. Steve Mackay said: “I am so glad I was able to attend the walk. The dry weather and an easy route meant everyone was able to enjoy the walk at their pace, and take advantage of the information and some sweet treats on the way! It was well organised by RLSS UK and I hope that there’s another one planned soon.”
