Trent ‘Maxi’ Maxwell landed in Dublin last weekend, as part of his 2019 visit to the UK.

Having met up with Rookie Lifeguards in South Shields the week before, 11 and 12 May was Ireland’s turn, with the warmest of welcomes for Maxi and his representative, Leigh Mason.

As the photos show, there was no rest for the wicked as Trent and the youngsters got stuck into the Rookie Lifeguard Competitions at Belvedere College pool on Saturday 11 May.

RLSS UK’s Community Drowning Prevention Co-ordinator Nial Elliott said:

“When Maxi entered it was like a Hollywood star had arrived and he’d already done a TV interview for the local channel TV3 group.

“All the youngsters were so excited! Everyone had such a great time and it was great to see Maxi get stuck into some of the lifesaving competition tests.

“The fun and games even went on into the evening as Maxi and Leigh joined the Ireland Branch committee and event organisers for a traditional Irish knees-up!”

On Sunday 12 May, Maxi joined an open water event with Poseidon Lifesaving Club and others on Greystones Beach where he headed out to the open water.

On hand to answer questions on how to the handle the rescue board and water safety comparisons between Greystones and Bondi, the outdoor session ended with some friendly board races before heading inside for a book signing and raffle.
