Final call for entries as deadline for RLSS UK & IQL UK.

National Awards 2014 draws near

The Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS UK) and IQL UK have extended the deadline for nominations for the prestigious National Awards to Sunday 20th April 2014, leaving just a few days left for entries which demonstrate excellence in pool lifeguarding and pool safety.

The second RLSS UK / IQL Awards will take place on Friday 20th June at the Hilton Metropole Hotel in Birmingham. This year, Olympic medallist Steve Parry will be the guest of honour at the event and will help present the awards for Lifeguard of the Year, Trainer Assessor of the Year and Approved Training Centre of the Year.

Martin Symcox, Business Development Manager at IQL UK, said: “Having reviewed some of the nominations received so far for this year’s Awards, I’m delighted to say that the standard has been very high. There have been some fantastic examples of people and Approved Training Centres who’ve made an outstanding contribution to the safety of swimmers and shown a clear dedication to pool lifeguard training so we’re looking forward to hearing even more inspirational stories before nominations come to a close.”

This year, nominations have included a duty manager and two lifeguards who provided emergency care to a 42-year-old swimmer who suffered a cardiac arrest, a newly qualified Trainer Assessor who delivered four National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) courses in less than 12 months, and an Approved Training Centre which trained 331 newly qualified lifeguards in one year.

Nominations close on April 20th 2014.
