Manchester and District Branch Chair, Michael Wardle would like to remember Alan Jones, on behalf of the Branch, who sadly past away in December 2015.

Over the years, Alan had been actively involved within lifesaving and was integral to spreading drowning prevention messages across the area, he also held various roles within the branch including Technical Officer.

Alan’s real passion for lifesaving was clear to see through his involvement and dedication to Droysden Lifesaving Club which he joined in 1972. It’s during this time he was able to support and position the club to ensure member of the public, including children and adults alike, had the opportunity to learn vital lifesaving skills.

Community was a very big focus for Alan. He was involved with the sea cadets until he was well into his 70s, and also helped to support the Tameside Disabled Swimming Club by offering lifesaving, lifeguarding and instructor training. Alan was a strong supporter of grass root activity and he wanted to see as many young people as possible given the opportunity to participate in lifesaving.

Alan Jones will be sadly missed.
