The Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS UK) has re-launched their National Rescue Awards for Swimming Teachers and Coaches (NRASTC LIGHT and NRASTC), following a comprehensive review and update.

Developed with input from the leisure sector,NRASTC and NRASTC LIGHT have both been re-designed to meet the needs of operators and todays teachers, coaches and instructors, teaching baby and parent swimming lessons through to adult sessions.

The UK’s leading water safety charity, RLSS UK, worked with industry experts including Swim England, Water Babies, national leisure providers, swim schools, and engaged with over 1,000 RLSS UK Trainer Assessors and RLSS UK Approved Training Centres to review and update the content, delivery and assessment process of the awards.

Following feedback, the content of the awards has been streamlined and it’s now delivered as a combined course, where one-day attendance gives successful candidates NRASTC LIGHT and two-day attendance gives successful candidates the full NRASTC. The course also now features the much-anticipated option for deep water spinal recovery - the biggest feedback point received during the review!

Jo Talbot, Director of Commercial Operations at RLSS UK, said:

“We are excited to be launching updated supervision and rescue awards for swimming teachers, coaches and instructors. Having worked with key stakeholders from the outset of this review, we are confident that the new-look NRASTC LIGHT and NRASTC are not only fit for purpose for those working on poolside or in the water during programmed activities, but also meet the needs of today’s operators.”
