On 2 January 2017, the Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS UK) lost one of its most committed lifesavers, Glyn Roberts. Glyn leaves behind his partner of 22 years, Tory and their three children Edward, Jessica and Hollie.

Glyn was a larger than life character who was always going out of his way to help people.

Since 1992 Glyn had worked as a Duty Lifeguard at the Parliament Hill Lido and Bathing pools where he was responsible for saving a number of people’s lives after they had got into difficulty in the water. Glyn was a passionate lifesaver and made every effort to improve his lifeguarding skills wherever he worked.

Glyn became an RLSS UK Trainer Assessor several years ago and his passion for lifesaving led him to organise several water safety awareness programmes for children during the Summer months. Glyn was also a committed volunteer for RLSS UK and regularly dedicated his time to helping RLSS UK educate more people on water safety.

As well as a passion for lifesaving, Glyn was also a keen runner and completed 17 marathons raising several thousands of pounds for various charities. Glyn also enjoyed walking and cycling in North Wales.

Di Steer, CEO of RLSS UK paid tribute to Glyn and his commitment to lifesaving said: “On behalf of RLSS UK I would like to pass on my condolences to Glyn’s family. Glyn embodied everything important about lifesaving, not only did he commit his working life to saving lives but he also went out into the community and educated hundreds of people on water safety. Glyn was a larger than life character and  was a passionate lifesaver and made every effort to improve his lifeguarding sills wherever he worked. His deep commitment to RLSS UK will not be forgotten and I’d personally like to say thank you for all the support he gave to RLSS UK throughout his life.”

For anyone wishing to pay their respects to Glyn the Parliament Hill Lido have opened a book of condolences where people can pay their respects.
