The Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS UK) is today excited to announce the appointment of their new CEO, Robert Gofton.

Formerly Director of Operations and Business Development for One World Events in Bristol, Robert brings a wealth of experience to the role of CEO for the UK’s Drowning Prevention Charity, having previously worked as the Chief Executive Officer for both the children’s charity, CHICKS (Country Holidays for Inner City Kids) and Falmouth and Exeter Students’ Union.

Robert also has extensive experience of working within the charity and private sectors, with additional expertise from a background that includes commercial businesses, fundraising, large membership-led and voluntary organisations.

On joining RLSS UK Robert said “I am absolutely delighted to be taking up the role of Chief Executive Officer for RLSS UK. This is a fantastic organisation with a wonderful heritage. I can’t wait to get started and help the Society become even more successful.”

Away from his full-time role, Robert is a Trustee for the mental health charity, Step One and when he’s not watching football in his role as a professional scout, he can be found on the water, indulging his hobby of surfing.

Ian Hutchings, President of RLSS UK welcomed Robert to the role:

“RLSS UK was formed over 125 years ago and has educated and helped, so many people in water safety. It is essential to ensure that everything our organisation does remains pertinent, current and where necessary, innovative and creative.

“Our recruitment process has borne fruit and in Robert we’ve appointed the best person to the role of Chief Executive Officer. There is no doubt that Robert has shown the skills and attributes that will take RLSS UK, to the next level.

“It’s a privilege to welcome Robert to the Society and I look forward to working with him.”

RLSS UK Chair of the Board of Trustees, Mike Owen added:

“Robert will be taking over from Rick Tazzini, our interim CEO, who has been with us as interim Finance Director for nearly a year. Rick’s strategic financial expertise and leadership skills have been invaluable during this transitional period of time. On behalf of the Society and Board of Trustees I would like to thank Rick and we all wish him well.”
