There are two ways you can become a Lifesaving Instructor Tutor. 

Route 1 – Pool TA Paper Questionnaire Update

In order to become a Lifesaving Instructor Tutor, you will need to purchase a Lifesaving manual for instructors, then request the multiple choice question paper from [email protected] - the question paper consists of 35 multiple choice questions of which 80% will need to be answered correctly in order to pass the update.

Once you have been awarded with your new status, you will gain access to the resources to be able to deliver awards and train new Lifesaving Instructors, these can be found on the RLSS direct website.   

The Lifesaving Instructor Tutor qualification will allow you to deliver the following courses:

  • Survive and Save programme
  • Community workshops (Save a baby’s Life, Save an adult’s life, Save a child’s life and Save a life (AED))
  • Life Support & Life Support 3
  • Lifesaving Instructor Courses
  • Community Instructor Courses
  • Rookie Instructor Courses (you must also hold the Rookie Instructor qualification – to register online go to 

Route 2 – Lifesaving Instructor Tutor Course

We have a Lifesaving Instructor Tutor Course which allows Lifesaving Instructors to become Tutors. In order for a Lifesaving Instructor to attend this course they first need to meet some criteria.

RLSS UK Lifesaving Instructure Tutor Course, to attend this course you must meet the following requirements:

  • Be 18 years old or above
  • Hold a Lifesaving Instructor Qualification (most hold a valid RLSS UK Membership and Life Support)
  • Have taught and assessed at least five Survive & Save award classes, including at least two bronze, two silver and one gold level class
  • Have a good record of course administration

Following the course, you will have completed the first stage of the process and will gain probationary Lifesaving Instructor Tutor status for 2 years. The second stage involves delivering a Lifesaving Instructor course while being shadowed by a Mentor, that will be assigned by RLSS UK.
