Name: Bryan Finlay

Position: Branch Representative

What do you do in life outside of RLSS UK? I am a qualified paramedic and currently work for the Scottish Ambulance Service as a regional community resuscitation development manager.

I enjoy trying new things – last year I was lucky enough to be a baton bearer and work at the Commonwealth Games, I found myself inspired by the diving team so took up diving lessons.

My next challenge is joining the Army reserves!

What are your guilty pleasures? Wentworth the TV drama (like Prisoner Cell Block H) and Kylie Minogue of course!

Who are your inspirational figures? My inspirational figures are my wife and children. Within lifesaving there are a few:

Joy Deacon who encouraged me when I first joined my local life saving club and Roger Barrett at RLSS UK HQ who is a legend and has a great knowledge of all that is to do with the society.

What’s your favourite holiday destination? I Love Ibiza – not been for a long time – you’ll find me these days holidaying up and down the UK visiting theme parks with my 12-year-old rollercoaster daft son!

What’s your favourite food? I’m easily pleased – give me a bowl of home made soup and I’m happy ….but not minestrone!

What’s your favourite book? I don’t really have time to read books, however I enjoy a visit to the cinema. I love action films and Star Wars.

What’s your favourite RLSS UK event and why?  This is hard. It’s between the Conference and the National Lifesaving Championships. These two events bring everyone together and you meet so many of like-minded volunteers. The conference always reminds us of why we do what we do and we can learn from each other.
