Would you like to work as a swimming pool lifeguard, or maybe just gain the important skills to know how to keep your friends and loved ones safe in, on or around water- with the additional knowledge of what to do if someone needs First Aid treatment or CPR?

Training includes the RLSS UK National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) and 14 online learning, providing you with a fantastic range of knowledge.

The NPLQ is the most awarded lifeguard qualification in the UK and Ireland and is internationally recognised. More than 40,000 pool lifeguards qualify with the RLSS UK every year, and there are currently more than 80,000 pool lifeguards qualified in the NPLQ – 95% of all UK pool lifeguards.

The NPLQ ranges in price from £250-£400 - the funding from Vision West Nottinghamshire College allows you to complete the training for just £50 (administration fee payable to Active Apprentice) - what a small price to pay to gain such valuable skills!

The NPLQ training is delivered over 36 hours (normally five days) and covers all the elements of Pool Rescue Techniques, Lifeguarding Theory, First Aid and CPR. The course is physically demanding and will include swimming to set times, lifting casualties and diving to the deepest part of the swimming pool.

Every candidate attending a NPLQ course must be 16 years old at the time of taking the NPLQ final assessment and be able to:

  • Jump/dive into deep water
  • Swim 50 metres in less than 60 seconds
  • Swim 100 metres continuously on front and back in deep water
  • Tread water for 30 seconds
  • Surface dive to the floor of the pool
  • Climb out unaided without ladder/steps and where the pool design permits
