Lifesaving Sport

Welcome to the NEW Lifesaving Sports Area, this area has been set up to help you easily navigate everything lifesaving sport related!

The Royal Life Saving Society UK is a National Governing Body for Lifesaving Sport - a sport recognised by the International Olympic Committee and the Commonwealth Games Federation.

Our aim is to provide an inclusive range of opportunities to increase participation in lifesaving activities.

We recognise the importance of equipping as many people as possible with valuable lifesaving skills to help save as many lives as possible and to help reduce the drowning toll in the UK.

The RLSS UK Performance Programme represents the top performing lifesavers and those who truly excel at Lifesaving Sport. Our squad nurtures talent to develop potential and performance, providing a pathway to excellence.

The squad is led by a range of top coaches with different specialisms, all of whom are committed to developing and inspiring lifesaving athletes.

Whilst the schedule of training is still being developed, highlights of the programme will include:

  • The programme will consist of two sub-groups - Podium athletes and Podium potential Both groups of athletes will have their own dedicated pool time as well as the opportunity to train together.
  • Access to long course pool training - all training sessions will be held in a long course pool.
  • More coaching staff on hand to get the best out of the athletes.
  • Low regular monthly payments which will include pool time, new Performance Programme team wear as well as subsidies towards specific International competitions.
  • Incentives for podium athletes to assist in the development and coaching for podium potential athletes.
  • More regular training sessions so that athletes can practice more often – approximately every 6 weeks. Training sessions will take place on a single day (morning or afternoon) with the occasional weekend camp still taking place.
  • The opportunity to train with other elite athletes and coaches from across the UK.
  • Online access to training sessions and plans which can be used by athletes and clubs to continue their training. .
  • Online access to personal development plans for each athlete with 1:1 sessions to monitor performance and progress.
  • The Performance Programme will identify talent at an individual event level – you do not have to be good at all events to be offered a place. Do the events you perform best at rather than trying to do them all!
  • Places within the Performance Programme will be offered in due course following the National Speed Championships and not on the weekend of the Championship itself.

A schedule of training sessions over the next 12 months will be published in the next few weeks.
