About the Course

The IQL Level 3 Award in National Pool Plant Operator Qualification is a three-day course and covers a wide range of skills which will equip you to deal with the day to day operations within a plant room environment.

The qualification is Ofqual accredited and valid for three years, making it suitable for all industries and enabling you meet the Pool Water Treatment Advisory Group (PWTAG) requirements.

The Pool Plant Operators course is 18 hours and can be delivered over three consecutive days. The course comprises of practical work and theoretical work, as well as a practical assessment within a plantroom environment.


Pre-Requisities

Candidates must be a minimum of 18 years of age at the date of assessment or be enrolled on to an apprenticeship.


Recommended for

Individuals who are responsible for the management of a pool plant and essential day to day operation within a swimming pool environment.


Course Content

A range of subjects including:

  • Understanding industry guidance that impacts on pool plant operations
  • How to reduce the impact of pollution on water quality
  • Residual (primary) and non-residual (secondary) disinfectants
  • Risk associated with chemicals
  • Understanding water circulation systems
  • Demonstrating a backwash
  • Risk assessments of the storage and use of chemicals
  • Hazards commonly associated with spa pools and interactive water features

Assessment

The assessment methods used for this qualification area:

  • Practical Assessment
  • Multiple Choice Questions
  • Post Course Assignment (completed post course and within three weeks)

Renewal

In order to re-qualify, candidates must be assessed against all learning outcome and assessment criteria. Candidatesshould re-take this qualification prior to the certificate expiry date to remain qualified. This can be achieved by either:

  • Attending a full new candidate course
  • Attending a requalification course
  • Completing an online re-validation course
