If you are a current holder of a RLSS UK National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) or National Vocational Beach Lifeguard Qualification (NVBLQ) you are eligible to apply for an ILS International Certificate which may support you to secure lifeguarding employment overseas.

Please note, this application is sent to Belgium and can take up to 6-weeks to complete.

How do I apply for a ILS International Certificate?

Before applying for the certificate we recommend that you check with the location you wish to work at to see what their lifeguard requirements are.

It is possible that they may accept your NPLQ/NVBLQ Qualification, or they may want you to take their own qualification, or they may accept the NPLQ/NVBLQ as long as you also hold the ILS International Certificate.

You will need to complete the below application form and also provide two passport size photographs.

Please return this form to:

ILS International Certificate
Royal Life Saving Society
Red Hill House
227 London Road
Worcester
WR5 2JG

Once the form is returned, there will be a validity check and then your application will be sent to Belgium, where the expected turnaround time is approximately six weeks.

ILS will then send RLSS UK the candidate's certificate, cloth badge, pin badge, and identity card, (similar to below image) which will then be forwarded directly to the candidate.

The cost is £50 per certificate.
