What We Do Our Awards Welsh Baccalaureate The Welsh Baccalaureate is a qualification for 14 to 19-year-old students in Wales, to develop learners’ skills whilst encouraging learners to identify, develop and participate in opportunities that will benefit the community. Water safety is the possible topic within the framework and the RLSS UK can support students to achieve their learning outcomes. Key Stage 4 National/Foundation Community Challenge South Wales Water Safety Group – Coaching Purpose The purpose of the Community Challenge is to develop learners’ skills whilst encouraging learners to identify, develop and participate in opportunities that will benefit the community. During the Community Challenge learners will explicitly develop skills of planning and organisation and personal effectiveness and apply them in an appropriate manner. Brief Over 700 people drown in the UK and Ireland every year and many more suffer injury, some life-changing, through non-fatal experiences. The groups most at risk are teenagers and young males. Wales had one of the highest rates of accidental drowning per head of the population in the UK. Drowning now accounts for more accidental fatalities annually than domestic house fires or cycling deaths on the road. As an individual or member of a team (minimum 3 – maximum 6 per team) you are invited to make an important contribution to the safety and wellbeing of young people living in and visiting your community.
