At the start of March this year, 8 year old Amelia Hill began her Mini Make a Splash challenge. An avid swimmer, she set herself a target of swimming one mile during the month.

Amelia says she wanted to raise money for RLSS UK “so more people can be taught water safety so everyone can continue to enjoy water safely. I never want to see my Mummy crying like she did for the girl that died in the sea, when we were on holiday.”

She found out about the challenge via her mum. “Mummy showed me it because I like doing Rookie Lifeguard, so she asked if I wanted to do it and I said yes!”

Although she found the challenge hard, she’s stayed motivated knowing that she’s making a difference. It’s also been helpful having lots of support from friends and family. “I’ve had lots of encouragement like you are amazing Amelia or great work Amelia! I would definitely recommend the challenge to anyone as it makes you fit and proud of your achievement.”

Amelia was doing so well she completed her mile challenge mid-March. Not content to stop there, she’s carried on swimming and has now passed the 2 mile mark! With the help of her mum and sister, she has also been raising additional funds for RLSS UK by making red and yellow bracelets and selling them to promote water safety. 💛

We wanted to say a big thank you and congratulations to Amelia for all her hard work smashing her swimming challenge, raising money for RLSS UK and promoting our water safety messages. 🤩
