How can I prove I’ve completed the challenge? Expand You don’t need to prove you’ve completed the challenge – we trust you! Once you have completed your challenge, please email us at [email protected] and we will then send out your medal. You can post videos, pictures, and updates on your social media and tag it with #MakeASplash1891. Sharing updates is a great way to show those who have sponsored you that you’re committed to completing the challenge.
How can I track my distance? Expand If you're swimming in a pool, this is much easier! A length in your local swimming pool is probably 25 metres (or 50m if you’re lucky and have an Olympic pool near you!). That means you need to do 76 lengths between October - December (around 25 lengths/month). Alternatively, you can either use a waterproof fitness tracker (such as Fitbit or Strava).
Do I have to fundraise online? Expand Your RLSS UK fundraising page is a secure, quick and easy way to get donations and a great way to track your progress. Most people also find it easier and more convenient to donate online. The benefit of using our own site compared to some of the other donation platforms, is that there are no fees to pay external companies = all money raised goes to RLSS UK. If you would rather fundraise using a sponsorship form, one is included with your fundraising guide.
What is my fundraising target? Expand There is no set fundraising target for this challenge as this is primarily designed to promote looking after your own well-being. However, if you have selected to fundraise for us, a good target to aim for would be £76 (£1 per length). This amount would also enable us to teach water safety to a classroom of children. If you want to aim higher, £250 will train someone to be a lifeguard who would otherwise not have the opportunity. As a bonus, if you raise over this amount you will be sent a Make a Splash t-shirt on completion of your challenge along with your medal.
Is there an entry fee? Expand Entry is just £10 for the Make a Splash 1891 challenge. On completion of your challenge you will be sent one of our Make a Splash medals.
When and where is this challenge? Expand This is a swimming challenge for anyone and starts on 1 October 2023, ending on the 31 December 2023. You can do this on your own or together with your friends and family at your local pool.
