Looking to get your cinema fix? Well, look no further as we have just the film to kick off a summer full of sport with a truly inspirational tale.

Today sees Disney’s ‘Young Woman and The Sea’ released in select cinemas. A gripping film all about the extraordinary true story of Trudy Ederle – the first woman to successfully swim the English Channel, and all the trials and tribulations she faced on her journey along the way.

Earlier this week, we were given a special opportunity for RLSS UK affiliated females to attend a special screening in Bristol and Brighton, and we can say with confidence that the film has gone down a treat!

Disney’s Young Woman and The Sea

Daisy Ridley stars as the accomplished swimmer who was born to immigrant parents in New York City in 1905. Through the steadfast support of her older sister and supportive trainers, she overcame adversity and the animosity of a patriarchal society to rise through the ranks of the Olympic swimming team and complete the staggering achievement – a 21-mile trek from France to England.

Also starring in the film are Tilda Cobham-Hervey, Stephen Graham, Kim Bodnia, Christopher Eccleston, and Glenn Fleshler – check out the trailer here for a sneak peek:
