In 2021 the Beach Patrol Service at Blackpool worked hard to increase awareness and educate the local community about drowning prevention and water safety education.

The team achieved this through Beach to School and promenade presentations targeting a series of pre-arrival beach safety initiatives. The topics included cold water shock, incoming tides and sandbanks, rip currents, fast-changing weather conditions and what to do in an emergency.

As part of their presentation, they played a short water safety education video which the Beach Patrol Service produced working alongside the Royal Life Saving Society UK's Lancashire and Manchester branches. The team then interacted with the children, delivering the Royal Life Saving Society UK’s national Water Safe Code.

The initiative is a great, modern way to convey key water safety messages, placing significant benefits on personal safety and wellbeing aligning to national guidance on water safety.
