RLSS UK would like to receive a confirmation of interest from athletes who would like to be considered for selection to represent Team Jersey in the RLSS Commonwealth Festival of Lifesaving.

Dates: 21 November – 23 November 2019 (travel dates to be confirmed nearer the time)

Location: the John Charles Centre for Sport, Leeds, UK

Athletes interested in applying to be part of Team Jersey should complete the Athlete Declaration at the bottom of the page, by Tuesday 10 September.  

A meeting will be held for all those who have registered their interest on Saturday 14th September.  The time and location will be confirmed.

Selection Criteria

Representation of our best athletes at prestigious international competitions is important to RLSS UK.

• The Team Manager and Team coaches will select the team. 
• The selection is final and no appeals will be considered. 
• Team size: 5 male / 5 female in each team (10 National team)
• Athletes will be selected for the team based on previous national and international competition results (both lifesaving sport and the national lifesaving championships).
• In addition to results, individual abilities and strengths will be considered in the athlete selection, to ensure we have a strong team across all the disciplines 
• Selected Athletes will be invited to attend training events prior to travel to the competition. The training events are designed to maximise on team ability, and ensure the athletes maintain fitness.
• All athletesdeclaring for team selection will be notified that their declarations have been received 
• Team Jersey will review athletes, subject to interest shown, and announce the team at the end of September.
• If athletes have swam in the performance (national) team before they cannot be in the development team. Athletes who have competed in the development team previously are permitted to compete in the development team again.
• Athletes have to be at least 16yrs by 31/12/2019
• RLSS UK Individual membership is a requirement of competing.

Cost

This competition is self-funded.

The Commonwealth Festival of Lifesaving is likely to cost approx. £550 (estimate) to cover competition entry, closing ceremony, travel and accommodation.  

Athletes selected for the Teams will be required to pay an initial deposit of £100 within 7 days of the team announcement to individuals and the full payment must be paid to RLSS UK by 31/10/2019. 

Team Jersey are working to reduce costs through sponsorship. 

We will be travelling and staying in accommodation as a team.
