Welcome to ‘100 seconds with…’

Please introduce yourself

Hi, my name is Charlotte. I am 25 years old and I work as a full-time lifeguard.

What did you do before you became a lifeguard?

Before lifeguarding, I worked as an Administrator/Receptionist at a secondary school.

What made you switch?

I chose to become a lifeguard as I am a very active person. I had worked within the education sector for five years, in three different schools and wanted to try something different.

How have you made the most of lockdown?

During this lockdown, I have kept my lifeguarding skills up to date by reading the NPLQ manual.  Just before lockdown, I was stepping up and covering as a senior lifeguard, so during this time, I am also completing a management and leadership skills course, to develop my knowledge and learn more about management.

What else have you discovered during lockdown?

Looking back at the full lockdown in March, I learnt a lot about myself as a person.

I was very determined to get back to work to fulfil my duties as a lifeguard although mentally, I did struggle, especially because I missed my active lifestyle.  I just kept telling myself it won’t be long until we can get back to doing the things we love once again.

I’m saying the same to myself now!

Away from lifeguarding, what floats your boat?

Outside of lifeguarding, I play hockey.  It is a sport I have been playing for 16 years!  I have a keen interest for other sports too including swimming, badminton, tennis, golf and football (I’m a massive Arsenal fan!!).

What does the future hold for you?

Ambitions for the future include working up to a management level within the leisure industry.  Taking every opportunity and training courses as they come!!
