The National Speed Championships, the largest competition of its kind in the UK, sees lifesaving athletes aged 12 and upwards from across the UK and Ireland competing for national titles in what is the only sport that has a humanitarian foundation.

The sporting competition helps promote lifesavers’ skills, knowledge and techniques and also plays an important role in spreading the RLSS UK water safety messages as the Drowning Prevention charity.

Events include the manikin carry, line throw and obstacle, with both individuals and teams competing, click here for more information.

In 2018 we head to Scotland and the venue of the 2014 Commonwealth Games, Tollcross International Swimming Centre.  The first weekend in March (3 and 4 March 2018) is the date set for the 2018 championships (#Speeds18).

“I look forward to seeing the 2017 Championships return to Ponds Forge, a venue we know well and where we have an excellent relationship built up over a number of years. Beyond that, I am excited to see our premier Speed event taken to Scotland and anticipate a wonderful weekend in Glasgow in 2018”. Chris Harper – RLSS UK Management Board – Champion for Sport

We are pleased to be returning to Ponds Forge next year and thrilled that the National Speed Lifesaving Championships will be hosted for the first time in Scotland in 2018.  This should give team managers and athletes the time required to plan for the new venue.  Both venues selected to cater for the size and scale of the championship, while showcasing Lifesaving Sport.  I am looking forward to returning to Ponds Forge and starting to work with the Glasgow Life team at Tollcross”.  Elouise Greenwood – Participation Development Manager.
