Following on from our inaugural National Drowning Report (June 2023), RLSS UK has released a Child Drowning Update for 2024, as part of our Expert Lens Series.

The new report highlights evidence from the National Child Mortality Database (NCMD) which shows that the number of child drowning deaths in England has doubled over the last four years.

And we believe that it is vitally important to understand as much as possible about the circumstances and factors contributing to child drowning deaths in order to raise awareness, grow understanding and ultimately reduce the number of young lives lost. The tragic findings from this update emphasise the importance of competent adult supervision, as well as a renewed focus on how to stay safe when in and around water at home.
