Life is sweet for Dublin-based Monkstown Lifesaving Club Lifesaving Instructor, Eileen Kavanagh: not content with serving up sweet treats as part of her day job in a Dublin bakery, Eileen’s lifesaving skills came into their own after a customer’s grandson started to choke whilst in the shop.

With the grandparents at a loss, Eileen knew exactly what to do and without hesitation leapt into action, within moments the back slaps were administered, the blockage cleared and there were smiles all round.

RLSS Ireland Branch PR Officer Ray Cullen, was keen that Eileen be recognised for her swift actions as well as her dedication to her training as a Rookie Instructor and Life Support as well as Lifesaving Instructor:

“It just goes to show that learning valuable lifesaving skills are not just for waterside rescues,” said Ray.

RLSS Ireland Branch President, Brendan Donohue presented Eileen with her Certificate of Commendation.
