The Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS UK) is the National Governing Body for pool-based Lifesaving Sport - a sport recognised by the International Olympic Committee and the Commonwealth Games Federation. Lifesaving Sport is the only sport whose skills are first learned for humanitarian purposes.
As showcased in our new promotional video, Lifesaving Sport is a competitive and dynamic international sport, with a variety of fun and challenging activities that take place in and out of the water at swimming pools and the beach. It is also an important vehicle to engage young people in lifesaving and support drowning prevention.

To participate in the National Lifesaving Championships 2026, we need to collect and process certain personal data. Lawful basis for data collection 1. Personal Information (Contractual Necessity): We collect and process your name, date of birth, RLSS UK membership number, and contact information (and in the case of competitors under 18 years of age, the name and contact details of a parent/legal guardian) because it is necessary to manage and administer your participation in the event. This processing is based on contractual necessity as this information is required to fulfill the contract of participation in the championships. We may also contact to ask for your feedback relating to the event. 2. Medical History (Explicit Consent): Any medical conditions or disabilities you disclose are processed under your explicit consent. This information is necessary to ensure your safety and provide appropriate accommodations during the event. Providing your medical history is optional, however, not providing this information might impact our ability to accommodate your needs during the event. After the event, we will retain the results alongside the competitor’s name for archiving purposes in the public interest, historical research, or statistical purposes, as permitted under the UK GDPR Article 89(1) and section 19 Data Protection Act 2018. RLSS UK only obtains the necessary personal data to conduct this form of processing and will only use the captured data for the agreed purpose.
