Would you like to become a RLSS UK First Aid Trainer Assessor and deliver our First Aid Qualifications?

What does it involve?

RLSS UK is offering existing RLSS UK Pool Lifeguard Trainer Assessors, and existing First Aid Instructors with other awarding organisations, a simple and cost-effective pathway to upskill or convert to deliver RLSS UK First Aid qualifications.

If your application is successful, there will be a £50 fee for your new set of Training Resources, which includes candidate materials for both First Aid at Work and Paediatric First Aid, as well as other resources to deliver this suite of qualifications.

If you are not an existing RLSS UK NPLQ Trainer Assessor or an existing First Aid Instructor with another awarding organisation, you can still become an RLSS UK First Aid Trainer Assessor by first achieving all the pre-requisites below and then applying to become a First Aid TA, detailed on this page.

Prerequisites

Those wishing to become an RLSS UK First Aid Trainer Assessor must:

  • Hold one of the following: a valid, in-date, National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) OR a regulated First Aid at Work Certificate from RLSS UK or another awarding organisation.
  • Hold a valid Level 3 Award in Education and Training (or equivalent). If you do not hold this qualification, RLSS UK are offering a competitively priced, distance learning course click here for full details.
  • Hold a current ‘Licence to Operate’ RLSS UK Membership.

RLSS UK First Aid qualifications are trainer-assessed, applicants must have been actively training first aid over the past three years. You are required to have completed the following:

An acceptable training and assessment log

  • Delivery of 1 First Aid at Work qualification, including assessment within the last 6 months
  • Delivered a minimum of 36 hours of first aid teaching within the last 3 years
  • Performed assessments on 6 First Aid courses in the past 3 years

Important - If you do not have the required hours above, you can still apply to become an RLSS UK First Aid Trainer Assessor, however, your first course will need to be moderated/observed:

  • Demonstrating practical and theoretical topics delivered competently
  • Demonstrating 4 practical and 1 theoretical assessment delivered competently (for new trainers this must be a minimum of 6 hours i.e., a full day of observation is required).

Delivery of First Aid Qualifications

All RLSS UK First Aid qualifications must be delivered at an RLSS UK Approved Training Centre (ATC) or via an RLSS UK Approved Training Provider (ATP).  If you currently work at an ATC/P you can start to deliver First Aid qualifications immediately by liaising with your ATC/P Coordinator.

If you are an independent trainer wishing to deliver First Aid qualifications, you can apply to become an ATP. The ATP scheme allows you to deliver qualifications at any location.

ATC/P’s receive access to RLSS UK’s Customer Relationship Management system (CRM) which will enable them to deliver, assess and certificate RLSS UK awards and qualifications, they can also access the Ongoing Training and Competency Assessment (OTCA) platform to manage ongoing training for their lifeguards. ATC/P’s can book a support call with the Principle Standards Manager for assistance with the course management system. The compliance team will conduct an external quality assurance audit with ATP/C’s every 12-18 months to ensure compliance with RLSS UK and Ofqual requirements.

If you wish to become an ATC or ATP, please click here.

New ATPs that will be delivering First Aid qualifications only, will receive their first-year subscription at a discounted rate of £100.
