Team GBR (Open) came 6th in the Pool events, 2nd in the Beach events and 5th overall in the European Championships. Congratulations to all the amazing athletes, coaches and supporters. Team Manager Ash would like to pay special thanks to Andy Wiggins (Logistics/Chef), Sophie Cooke Williams (Sports Therapist), Dan Woodthorpe (Pool Coach), George Haynes (Beach coach) and the ladies behind-the-scenes working tirelessly to pull it all together - Fran Flemming & Annie Downey. Thank you! A huge well done also to all the Masters who competed in the recent European Lifesaving Championships. There were outstanding performances in the Line Throw with Niamh Ronan and Laura Mulhair winning Silver in the Ladies event. Cillian Spain and Kevin Mulhair together with Derek O’Brien and David Browne won Gold in the Men’s Line Throws in their age groups. This means that Cillian and David are the current European and World Champions in the Masters Line Throw! Ciara Kavanagh finished 5th in the Manikin Carry and 4th in the Manikin Tow with Fins (European records were set in both of these events). Noel Mulhair won a Bronze medal in the Manikin Carry. The Men’s team finished 4th in the Obstacle Relay. There were 10 top eight finishes in the Manikin Carry, Manikin Tow with Fins and Manikin Carry with Fins. Special mentions also to the ladies of Crawley Town Lifesaving Club who put in huge performances with a Gold for Jennie Amos and Donna Wickens in the Line Throw. Donna earned herself a complete set of medals after also achieving Silver in the 100m obstacles (new UK record) and Bronze in the 50m Manikin Carry! The ladies also brought home a Silver for the 200 Medley Relay and Bronze for the Manikin Relay - incredible work, well done all! 22 September 2023 It was well and truly Team GBR's day... Molly and Ellie teamed up for the Board Rescue and started the day on a high, securing a Silver medal - and those medals just kept on coming! In the men's event, Charlie and Bob led from the start and claimed the European title. Both the boys and girls narrowly missed out on medals in the Tube Rescue event, but both came 4th securing some strong points for the team. On to the Flags where it was a Bronze performance for Evie and Charlie - well done both! We saw another excellent performance from Charlie in the Swim, as he secured a Bronze medal in thrilling sprint finish. Better still, he was joined on the podium by team-mate Thomas who won Gold - congratulations to the new European Surf Swim Champion. In the Ocean Woman event, Ellie and Georgia both had strong performances, with Ellie winning to becoming the European Champion. Team GBR also took the title in the Ocean Man event as Bob pipped Thomas to the post to take Gold - Thomas comfortably taking Silver. The grand finale was the Mixed Ocean Relay where Team GBR (consisting of Izzie, Molly, Bob, and Piran) gave a phenomenal performance and were crowned European Champions, securing the 5th gold medal of the day for the overall team. Thanks to these outstanding performances, GBR finished 2nd in the Ocean & Beach events - an outstanding achievement! Congratulations from everyone at RLSS UK 21 September 2023 An exciting and eventful day at the European Championship! The competition was filled with ups and downs, but the team showed incredible determination and skill. In the men's Ski, Charlie finished strong securing a brilliant 4th place and points on the board for Team GBR. We had an even better result in the women's event as Evie Wong took the Bronze medal title. The Board finals saw another medal secured - this time Silver by Ellie McCloy - plus more points accrued for the team aggregate by Molly. Congratulations! Team efforts paid off in the Taplin and GBR take home a Silver (men's) and Bronze (women's). And last but definitely not least, the Sprint Relays were an exciting watch with the girls hitting 3rd place and men in a respectable 5th. Overall, it was a day filled with exciting races, remarkable performances, and well-earned medals. The team's hard work and dedication were clearly evident, setting a positive tone for the rest of the championship. 18 September 2023 Day 2 in the pool was a tough one one for the team as both the racing and heat was intense - with no cool down time. Thankfully, plenty of finals were reached and points were accrued! First up was the 200m Super Lifesaver where RLSS's Emma and her partner Molly achieved some superb points in the B final. James also reached the B final, finishing 11th overall and Sam had a brilliant result, finishing 6th having made the A final! Well done team! In the 4 x 50m Medley Relay, GBR ladies finished 12th and the men 8th in Europe. The 100m Rescue Medley was a spectacle for spectators! Both girls qualified for the B final, picking up essential points for GBR. James and Sam made it to the A finals and took home 6th and 4th place respectively. Lots more points were gained in the 100m Manikin Carry, getting Team GBR in the zone ready for the mixed 4 x 50m Lifesaver Relay. The team (Izzie, Emma, Charlie and Sam) made the A final and finished in 8th place. That's the pool section of the Championships over and we can't wait to see what's in store over the coming days at the beach. Congratulations to all of you! Well done also to Team GBR's brilliant Pool Coach, Daniel Woodthorpe who has enabled athletes to perform to their best ability over the past few days. 17 September 2023 Team GBR were seemingly unfazed by the hectic time and delivered points after points! Heats went well and finals were made! RLSS athlete James Blaby competed in the 200m Obstacles B final which saw a well-earned 12th overall. Relays saw no B finals ran throughout the competition. Times recorded in the heats were allocated the points from 9th - 16th. This saw Team GBR girls finish in a respectable 9th place for the 4 x 50m Obstacle Relay. The men made the A final and finished in 4th place! Line throw was next, which saw both teams secure a spot in the A final where RLSS' Sam and partner achieved 4th place and the girls threw a 7th. RLSS athletes James and Emma finished in 8th and 14th respectively in the 50m Manikin Carry, picking up valuable points for team GBR alongside their teammates. Next up was the 4 x 25m Manikin Carry whereby both teams made the A final - an amazing 5th place for the men and 8th place for the ladies! The day finished with the 100m Manikin Tow where James and Sam achieved the B final in some great heat swims and finished their day 1 in one of the closest races, with 10th, 11th, 12th & 13th being split by 0.3 seconds, Sam coming 11th and James 13th. Incredible work - keep it up team! 16 September 2023 On day 2, the athletes enjoyed a lie-in, breakfast and some light training in the morning. In the afternoon, the SERC team performed amazingly, utilising each bit of equipment available with wonderful casualty care. Tomorrow we witness the 200m Obstacles, 4x50m Obstacles Relay, Line Throw, 50m Manikin Carry, 4x25m Manikin Relay and 100m Manikin Tow...
