A reasonable adjustment relates to any actions that help to break down barriers during course delivery or an assessment situation of a candidate who has a disability or difficulty which may place them at a disadvantage.

They are applied to an assessment process for a qualification, to enable a candidate with a disability or difficulty, to demonstrate his or her knowledge, skills, and understanding of the levels of attainment required in the qualification specification.

When a reasonable adjustment has been applied, the work produced by the candidate will be marked to the same standards and assessment requirements as the work assessed of the other candidate(s).

Whilst we make every effort to support a candidate in coming to an agreement of an adjustment, it is important to note that due to the nature of our qualifications it may not be possible for an outcome to be reached.

A reasonable adjustment can also be applied for a candidate during the delivery of a course. Adjustments made for the candidate during course delivery do not need an application submitting. However, the ATC/P and trainer need to be aware that the adjustment they make for the course may not be one that can be granted for an assessment.

A reasonable adjustment for an assessment must be applied for and agreed upon prior to an assessment taking place. This is to ensure the correct support and measures can be put in place for the candidate.

Therefore, the enrolment of a candidate onto a course is an important process. It helps highlight if a candidate may need a reasonable adjustment or extra support.

An application for a reasonable adjustment can be submitted by the candidate or on behalf of a candidate by the trainer/ ATC/P Co-ordinator. Applications should contain any relevant supporting evidence.

There may be instances where a candidate may not have supporting evidence. In these instances, the professional judgment of the Trainer or ATC/P co-ordinator may be used.

There are many instances where an ATC/P can apply an adjustment themselves rather than applying to RLSS UK Qualifications. In each instance, the application process should still be followed, and outcomes evidenced.
