Lifesaving Sport

The Royal Life Saving Society UK is the National Governing Body for pool-based Lifesaving Sport - a sport recognised by the International Olympic Committee and the Commonwealth Games Federation. Lifesaving Sport is the only sport whose skills are first learned for humanitarian purposes.

As showcased in our new promotional video, Lifesaving Sport is a competitive and dynamic international sport, with a variety of fun and challenging activities that take place in and out of the water at swimming pools and the beach. It is also an important vehicle to engage young people in lifesaving and support drowning prevention.

RLSS UK are proud and excited to have been selected to host the Commonwealth Lifesaving Championships 11 - 13 July 2025, but we are relying on a fantastic team of dedicated volunteers to help us make the event a huge success!

We will have opportunities across a range of areas, including administration, media, event support and operations. You don’t have to be a member of a lifesaving club – you just have to be eager, reliable and have a current RLSS UK Membership.

We are currently recruiting volunteers to form part of a Committee and are looking for applicants with the relevant skills and knowledge to perform the following roles:

Current roles available

  • Event Organiser - to assist in the running of the event, including leisure time trips local to Swansea and Development Workshops
  • Function Organiser - to assist in the organisation of the welcome and closing dinner functions
  • Presentations Management - to manage the Presentation of Medals ceremony
  • Recording Management - to professionally manage a team of staff and volunteers to deliver a successful outcome, managing the entries and scoring system. Must have existing knowledge of Lifesaving Sport events and rules and hold the necessary equipment to record timings. A track record of delivering national or international swim meets would be desirable.
  • Sports Coach - to join the Sports Action group with a view to support and deliver the strategy for Lifesaving Sport coaching in RLSS UK.
