Lifesaving Sport

The Royal Life Saving Society UK is the National Governing Body for pool-based Lifesaving Sport - a sport recognised by the International Olympic Committee and the Commonwealth Games Federation. Lifesaving Sport is the only sport whose skills are first learned for humanitarian purposes.

As showcased in our new promotional video, Lifesaving Sport is a competitive and dynamic international sport, with a variety of fun and challenging activities that take place in and out of the water at swimming pools and the beach. It is also an important vehicle to engage young people in lifesaving and support drowning prevention. 

RLSS UK to host Commonwealth Lifesaving Championships 2025

The Royal Lifesaving Society UK (RLSS UK) is delighted to announce that it has been selected to host the 2025 Commonwealth Lifesaving Championships by RLSS Commonwealth Drowning Prevention. RLSS UK will be delivering the event over four days, between 10 – 13 July 2025.

The Commonwealth Lifesaving Championships are held every two years, with the last event being in Canada in 2023. RLSS UK are thrilled to be bringing the games to the home nations in 2025, where the competition will be held at the National Pool of Wales in Swansea - a vibrant city that is certainly a fitting location for such an exciting and innovative sport.

The National Pool of Wales is an ideal venue for the Commonwealth Lifesaving Championships, with an Olympic-size competition pool and 1,200 spectator seats. The pool has been training home of some of the largest names in UK swimming such as doubled-Olympic medallist Jazz Carlin, David Davies and Paralympic superstars David Roberts and Ellie Simmonds. It will be fantastic to see Lifesaving Sport athletes from around the Commonwealth follow in their footsteps.
