1. Research the area before you go - Check the water temperature, weather, wind, current and tidal flow conditions. 
  2. Always wear a buoyancy aid.
  3. Use an ankle or waist-belt leash.
  4. Always tell someone where you are going and when to expect you back.
  5. Take a mobile phone in a waterproof pouch/bag.
  6. If in difficulty, stay on top of your board and signal for help.
  7. If you fall in and lose your board - stay calm, float on your back, call for help.
  8. Know and follow the Water Safety Code.
