Summer Water Safety Tips for the Beach Choose lifeguarded beaches - know when lifeguards are on duty. Adhere to warning signs and flags. Never let young children out of your reach - supervision is the key. Do not swim near or dive from rocks, piers, breakwater, and coral. Do not use inflatable dinghies or lilos – you could get swept out to sea. If you get stuck in quicksand, do not stand up - lie down, spread your weight, call for help. If you get into trouble or feel overwhelmed – stay calm, float on your back, call for help. Know and follow the Water Safety Code.
