Lifesaving SportThe Royal Life Saving Society UK is the National Governing Body for pool-based Lifesaving Sport - a sport recognised by the International Olympic Committee and the Commonwealth Games Federation. Lifesaving Sport is the only sport whose skills are first learned for humanitarian purposes. As showcased in our new promotional video, Lifesaving Sport is a competitive and dynamic international sport, with a variety of fun and challenging activities that take place in and out of the water at swimming pools and the beach. It is also an important vehicle to engage young people in lifesaving and support drowning prevention. Travelling by bus If you're travelling from Birmingham city centre, you can catch the 12 or 12A bus from Colmore Row. The bus comes around every 15 minutes and the bus journey should take you around 35 minutes. If you get off the bus at the stop for Thimblemill Road and Queens Road, it is then a quick three minute walk to Sandwell Aquatics Centre. You can also get the 89 bus from Colmore Row which will take you to Londonderry Lane and Queens Road in around 40 minutes. It is then just a one minute walk to the centre. Travelling by train If you're getting the train from Birmingham New Street, the nearest train station will be Smethwick Rolfe Street. It is then either a 25 minute walk to the aquatics centre, or you can catch the 89 bus and get off at Warley Road on Londonderry Lane. If you're getting the train from Birmingham Snow Hill station, head to Langley Green station. From there it is around a 25 minute walk to the aquatics centre. Site map Personal Belongings Athletes are encouraged to use lockers to safely store their belongings. RLSS UK and Sandwell Aquatics will not be responsible for any lost or stolen items left unattended. Dress Code Other than when taking part in the competition, appropriate clothing and footwear must be worn at all times whilst on Sandwell Aquatics premises. Mobile Phones and Cameras Sandwell Aquatics has a strict policy regarding mobile phones and in certain areas the use of such equipment is prohibited. Please adhere to any instructions, which are posted throughout the complex. Anyone who intends to take photographs using a camera, video or mobile phone, appropriate documentation should be completed, and identification wristbands worn. This applies to competitors and spectators. Poolside Other than competitors immediately prior to their own event, only Officials and Team Managers will be allowed on the poolside. First Aid / Medical During the Championships, in an emergency first contact a member of the Sandwell Aquatics staff. There will not be a doctor present at these Championships. Pool staff will administer first aid where necessary. The closest hospital to Sandwell Aquatics is: Sandwell General Hospital, B71 4HJ. Food and Drink There is a cafe on site at Sandwell Aquatics Centre. Travel and Accommodation Travel and overnight accommodation (if required) is for you or your Team Manager to arrange.
